Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Training for Translators in 5 Steps© – Class II

$350.00

In translation, the dialectic of unison and plurality is dramatically at work. Each act of translation is an endeavor to abolish multiplicity and to bring different world pictures back into perfect congruence. This class will teach how to reinvent the shape of meaning to justify an alternate statement. If the translator’s craft is ambivalent, we will focus on practice to find the extreme tension between impulses and recreation. Special Education has a vocabulary of its own, so the class’s goal is to research terms in the fields seen in IEP assessments. Research activity: Final teamwork project to present what was taught in class.

Step 1 – Text Analysis. Syntax. Dynamics in Meaning.
Step 2 – Capitalization & Punctuation in Spanish.
Step 3 – The Dichotomy of Word and Sense. The “Translator’s Sense.”
Step 4 – Scenes-and-Frames Semantics. Vocabulary Review in Medical and Psychological Settings.
Hands-on Work: Multi-Disciplinary Psycho-Educational Assessment Report: Translation of Specific
Action Words for IEP Goals.
Step 5 – Intro to CAT Tools.
